Thirteen SL Foundation and PLURMEA Unite for Mangrove Conservation in Gabon In a powerful demonstration of environmental leadership and community engagement, the Thirteen SL Foundation proudly partnered with the Programme de Lutte pour la Réhabilitation et Protection des Mangroves et autres Écosystèmes Aquatiques (PLURMEA) to celebrate the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem this past July in Gabon. This partnership marked a new chapter in the Foundation’s commitment to sustainability and social impact, aligning with PLURMEA’s long-standing efforts to protect Gabon’s vital aquatic ecosystems. Three Days of Impactful Action From July 25th to 27th, 2024, the joint initiative engaged local communities, youth, businesses, and environmental stakeholders in a series of high-impact events designed to raise awareness and drive tangible restoration efforts: July 25: A dynamic conference on the Lowé mangrove brought together environmental experts, local leaders, and youth advocates to discuss the critical role mangroves play in climate resilience and biodiversity protection. July 26: Sports met sustainability during a high-energy 3x3 basketball tournament at Lycée Léon MBA, where local teams—including one proudly representing the Thirteen SL Foundation—competed in an event that united sport, community, and environmental awareness. July 27: The weekend culminated in a hands-on mangrove restoration effort in Angondjé, Akanda, where over 3,000 mangrove trees were planted across a 3-hectare zone. Participants also installed educational signage to promote long-term protection of the newly reforested area. A Vision for the Future The success of this collaborative effort signals the beginning of a long-term relationship between PLURMEA and the Thirteen SL Foundation. By combining PLURMEA’s environmental expertise with the Foundation’s dedication to youth empowerment and community development, the partnership aspires to create sustainable models for ecosystem restoration and social transformation across Gabon. "We believe this is just the beginning," said Stéphane Lasme, Founder of the Thirteen SL Foundation. "Our shared vision goes beyond one event. Together, we’re building a movement—where sports, education, and environmental stewardship work hand-in-hand to inspire lasting change." Stay Connected Follow the Thirteen SL Foundation as we continue to amplify the voices of youth, promote ecological awareness, and foster meaningful partnerships for a sustainable Gabon. More initiatives and collaborations are on the horizon.
